The Seventh Summer has Begun!
This post is being written from Dubai. So I am jetlagged. There was a lot happening at ChezLostinarcadia in the run-up to this year’s junket. In the mélee I failed to blog. I’m middle-aged, which must stand for my excuse.
So, a couple of changes.
I’ve departed later than usual & just in the nick of time as I hear it’s about 2’c in Melbourne tonight. (This is where I mention that it’s 25’c inside the airport, and 40’c outside.) I may have already mentioned this on my Facebook page. And in texts to Husband and Mother.
I’ve also moved UK abode. It’s finally happened, and my usual hosts are out of bedrooms. Or they are sick of me but are too polite to say so. This would SO not happen if I were a horse My friend Helen – she who came to Australia for part of the summer a couple of years back – came through via her amazing social circle. Within 72 hours I had a new place to stay, on the same side of town, a bit more suburban but still within cooee of my beloved Ickworth. With a lovely sparky lady who I have met several times & like. She even has a sewing machine & is willing to let me use it.
As long as I don’t bring her the lovely laryngitis & chesty cough I have brought with me! The UAE is having its own issues with respiratory diseases but so far people seem unconcerned by an Australian who is wheezy and has almost no voice.
This trip I am staying in the hotel in Concourse A. ( I realize this may not be gripping for my readers, but I need to remember this as I always have trouble working out which Concourse is better, A or B. A is the luxury one where the Airbus flights land. Huge plus.) This year my room is near the smoking lounge, so the corridors are a bit unpleasant. The room is fine, thank goodness.
Back in Singapore last night, I stayed at the Hotel in T2. Previous years I was in T1 or T3. T1 is now branded differently & a bit pricier. They’ve done up the pool & removed the saggy but shady cabanas. It was heaving with people. T3 hotel is more convenient to departure gates, T2 is the furthest away but perfectly nice. It is convenient to the Fish Spa (called something else now, looking a bit shabby, but the massages are as good as ever).
Sipping a Classic Cortado & about to have today’s massage. The pool is in the other Concourse so I may or may not make it over there. And upstairs here is a King Size bed with cotton sheets…
Good night.
